Minnesota Boys Bedroom Makeover....he LOVES it!

Lake was more than excited to see his "new" bedroom! It screams "I am from Minnesota!" He loved the slate gray on his walls and ceiling. I am so happy we did the ceiling the same color as the walls, it's very cozy. My hubby made this great magnetic board above Lake's desk with sheet metal and added a hockey stick frame. We will be selling these in our new shop!
I added several vintage hockey pins to Lake's lampshade. They came from Lake's dad, grandpa and uncles.

Yes, you do see a beta in a glass pitcher. Lake wanted his new room to be hockey, fishing and hunting. So I thought he should have a fish to take care of, his name is Lightning.

We took his pucks and medals and made them into magnets. We used Gorilla glue, everyone should own some!

Minnow bucket for the crayons.

His dad's old hockey stick clothing rack.

Lake adores these horns, they still have the velvet on them.

My hubby found this vintage kayak paddle. It's very used, you can see the natural bend in the wood from all the years of paddling in the water.

A vintage fishing pole makes for a nice curtain rod, I was going to use a hockey stick, but this was much cuter.

Zamboni banks....thanks Kyle!

All boy.

My dad framed a picture of our family cabin with logs to hang in Lake's room. It's his favorite weekend destination.
I have always love this old paddle.

Perfect stool from my attic for his little bum. Lake's room is so simple and it will grow with him for years to come.

This post is backwards, these are the before photos. Pink, Pink and more PINK!!!

Wow, did she outgrow this room or what!? Her makeover is coming soon!

Sneek Peak #2 of Shabby Cottage Girls Room

We have been busy all week long working on Lake and Vallie's bedrooms. I wanted to share this ugly foot board I picked up at the dump. It has a little door that opens too, kinda fun, I thought I could make it into a headboard for my daughter's room. I added some wood decals and a glass door knob as well.
Of course she needed a "V" mounted on the door. The V is a the same color as the focal wall, a very pale pink. When you open the door there will be a scene painted, it will make for good bedtime stories. I made the pale pink paint with some leftover white I had from long ago and added some red craft paint until it was a pale pink.

A very shabby cottage headboard for next to nothing. I will post the entire room soon, I am still working on the accents and fine details, I can't wait for Vallie to see it! Lake's room has the theme of hockey and fishing. My hubby made a very cool magnetic board for his room last night, I'll share it soon!

Sneak Preview of the Cottage Shabby Bedroom

We have busy all weekend working on swapping the kids bedrooms. Yes, my hubby was pumped to paint instead of a fun filled Valentine's Day. We did sneak away to have a romantic dinner at Five Guys Burger and Fries. Actually, it really hit the spot! This is turning into one LARGE project. Our kids are spending the next week with their Nan and Pops, and I can't wait to see their faces when they see their bedroom makeovers!
This cute little table is going to be my daughter's bedside nightstand. This is just one of the fun pieces I am adding to her cottage shabby room. Stay tuned for the full makover post coming soon! Happy President's Day!

I Love These!

Have you seen these? They are fabulous! They are made of terra cotta and then painted and distressed to look like old concrete statues, so fun.
They are not expensive, best part, and this one was 1/2 off, even better!

I have totally changed my style. I always had lodge and moose decor. Of course living on the Canadian border, it looked great. Then the guys decided to build a family cabin, which we all love, so I have moved all of my lodge decor to the cabin. I will have to do a post on our cabin. The guys did a wonderful job.

Here's another one I found, love this one too! I also found a cloche for my heron flower frog, how fun is that? I finally bought my first cloche, now I am hooked on finding them.
The big green toolbox didn't fit in my bathroom, soooo sad about that. I am thinking it will end up in my dear daughter's entry. I did find this one in my garden shed, works great. I found these old little pots out there too. Brrr, it's cold out there!

By now, everyone knows I LOVE old flower frogs. I picked up this clay pot saucer yesterday, and it works perfect for holding some of my collection.

So, here's my theory on winter.

Ya sure, you betcha, if you live in northern Minnesota -

You might be found sitting on the edge of your tub, in your garden room, reading a garden magazine.

I hope everyone has a great Junkin' week-end!

Chocolate and Pink girls room

My daughter will be getting a bedroom makeover very soon. I am going to do some switching around upstairs. I am having so much fun looking for color palettes and fun decor. Vallie is very much of a girly girl. Chocolate and pink or something else......maybe I'll ask her. What color is your little girl's room? You can check out more of this bedroom here. Well, that means my son will be getting a bedroom makeover as well. Lake doesn't use his room nearly as much as Vallie does. So many decisions to be made! Have a great Tuesday!

Patina or Dirt???

It's amazing what you find under dirt.

Sorry! - that we haven't posted.

Hubby & I went on a quick vacation to Nevada with friends. The 80 degrees temp. change was sooooo nice, but now it's back to Int'l Falls - cold & snow!

Krista is always on a mission between teaching, hockey, dance, church, Sunday school, volunteering, and keeping our booth at Old Town Antiques looking fabulous, Thank you dear!

I try to help as much as I can, but we live 160 miles apart. We do travel down often, but I wished I lived closer, so I could help her more in the booth. I try to stay one week a month at her house. That's my time to spend with my Grandbabes, and help out, love it!

So, here's my latest find -

I found this old toolbox at a thrift store, and knew it would be perfect for my bathroom. It took me 5 pails of water to get it clean, ewww!

Then it was off to the bathroom to make my garden vignette, I was so happy with how it turned out, except it doesn't fit, it's too big! Now I need to find another place for it, and I WILL!

I added old garden tools and flower frogs.

I had to add a nest and the old brass hose nozzles fit perfect on the lid.

Now back to the "Patina or Dirt"???
Have you heard of the Hantavirus? You get it from mouse droppings. We know of someone who died from it. I know all old stuff comes from sheds, attics, garages, and guess who lives there? Yup, Mr. & Mrs. Mouse & probably the little ones too.

You need to wash everything before you bring it into your home, esp. if you have children.
You must wear a respirator if you sweep out old sheds and attics, please be careful.

I want you to keep Junkin' & Recycling, but please be aware of the dust and dirt.

Ok, this is your Public Service Announcement for the day, I'm done.
