Repurposed Vintage Purse!

How fun is this? You can see in the second photo what I started with. You can find these cheap little green trees, paint and glitter them up, and make them look like the ones from the 50's. They are so much fun to make. I collect junk all year long, must be why my basement looks like it does right now, yikes!!!, and then create fun projects for our booth. This will be for sale Thursday nite. I'd better get busy, lots to do, and time is running out.

Ok, so I do need to blog more.......maybe in 2010

I have been busy, I just haven't blogged about it. I spent some time with my Dad this fall. We built these benches, tool boxes and cupboard with a metal insert in the door. We just put everything in our booth at Old Town for sale this past week-end. We also just finished making fresh green wreaths, I just love the smell of them. We will have a few at our open house, but I mainly make them for family. I still love an old fashion green wreath on the front door.
We are working on so many wonderful things for our open house next week, we will have to post some pictures of our booth on here.

My Winter Garden

I have been playing around with making terrariums. I have always LOVED them! We went moss picking at the our cabin last weekend and picked several different kinds. I never thought moss could be so much fun! Mini winter gardens, who doesn't want to look at something green in the middle of winter. I have tons of empty glass containers around my house, I've just been looking for cool lids to match. I had this one and the top is part of a candy dish and the bottom broke.
Just add a little soil and lay your moss on top. I am adding little figures and what not in mine. I found this little reindeer last weekend as well.

I hope I can keep the moss alive!!! Wish me luck!

Fun, Fun Stuff for Sale!

I was busy in the booth all weekend. Do you ever spend more time visiting than working? I think that's what I did. Oh well, it's always nice to catch up with the other vendors. I do love being there and watching someone buy a piece of ours and they are so happy to have found what they were looking for. It makes me so happy! I met some really funny people yesterday while I was in there working. I wanted to share a few pictures of what we have for sale right now. It's such a busy time of year, I'm heading back there today after work!

I do love glass jars, this one is HUGE and full of Christmas ornaments.
Locker baskets are always a "hot" item. There are so many things you can do with them.

I love these old gears. You see the white tree in the background. I did accomplish something yesterday. It was the first artificial tree I have ever put together in my life! Not to hard, quite easy actually.

My daughter was in the Christmas City of the North Parade on Friday night. She was a darling snowflake with blue lights. She was even on T.V. for a bit. Go Vallie! She rode the float for her dance studio with her bestest friend Paige. They were toooo cute!

Lakers waiting for Vallie's float at the parade. I snapped this picture and started to laugh! To be honest, this sums up how I feel today! Monday, ARGH!!!!! I feel like I have so much to do before we leave town tomorrow. Happy Monday!

Easy Chair Makeover

I found three of these old metal chairs. I think they look like they were from an ice cream shop. Very ugly with a vinyl seat. Ewwww! This is a quickie project for anyone!
I spray painted them red and added an old bedspread seat. I was a little sick about cutting up this darling bedspread, but it does make a unique seat cover. Happy Saturday!

Cookie Cutter Nightlights

I have been making all kinds of fun stuff this week. We are getting ready for our Christmas Open House at Old Town Antiques. I'm anxious to get down there this weekend and flip our booth to Christmas! I'll post pictures when we are finished. I love old cookie cutters, especially these. I am making them into nightlights.
Just add a light bracket to attach to the nightlight part. I used Gorilla Glue, it's a staple in my house.

Darling little jumping deer.

Cute chicken for the kitchen huh? These are quick and easy to make, just keep your eyes peeled for the old cutters. The ones I found are very cool, they have a really nice patina to them. They will be for sale in our booth soon!

Jack Daniel's Chocolate Chip Pecan Pie

Mmmmmm. I have been searching for a different, yet mouth watering pie recipe for Thanksgiving this year. We are all bringing a different pie, so I think that makes 4 to choose from. My dad will make apple, my mom will make her world famous pumpkin, my brother and his girlfriend will make hmm, I don't know, and I am looking for something different this year. Check out this recipe, it looks so good! Maybe I'll give it a trial run and see if it's as good as it looks. How can it not be? Chocolate, pecans and liquor, sounds delicious!

Ingredients:
3 extra large eggs, slightly beaten
1 C sugar
2 T melted butter
1 C dark corn syrup
1 t vanilla
1/4 C Jack Daniel's
1/2 C semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 c whole pecans
1 10 inch pie crust, unbaked

Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine eggs, sugar, butter, syrup, and whiskey. Mix well and strain. Sprinkle most of the chips over bottom of crust. Cover with pecans. Pour filling over chips and pecan. Sprinkle top with remaining chips. Bake 35-40 minutes, let cool 30 minutes before cutting. Makes 6-8 servings.

Please tell me if you've ever had this pie or if you have any suggestions for a yummy holiday pie.
Thanks so much- Krista

Changing with the seasons

I love to watch the seasons change as well as the decor around my house. I've been busy this weekend swapping out the fall with winter. It's funny how my taste changes in just one year. Does anyone else find that happening to them as well? Some things I loved last year I have already priced to take to my booth at Old Town Antiques. I'm a creature of change, what can I say!? My mantle is very simple right now, I left my old shutters up there and added a mirror that I found in my attic (I have NO IDEA where it came from), some old spindles, a wreath and trees. As Christmas approaches, my santa collection will probably find their way up there as well.
My chandelier above my dining room table is always deocorated. When it's naked I feel like she feels bad so I hurry up and make her beautiful again. I will be adding more to her, I'll share when I finish.

Ahhhh, tiny ice skates. I found these at a garage sale, check out the rusty old bell. Now really, who would give these babies away? I wonder who wore them and how she felt when she skated and the bells would jingle. I love them!

I was struggling with how to display my outdoor trees on my front porch. So, up to the magic attic again and look what I found! I had a few old tee stands that I've collected over the past year. I was going to use them inside for a number of things, but they look to good out here.

I am a sucker for vintage linens. Yes, a HUGE SUCKER! I am contantly buying them. My table is always, always, always dressed for the season. She is never naked. I bet I must have 30 tablecloths! It's ridiculous, I should sell a few. I love fabric and how it can instantly add personality to any room.

This is an old hutch that I wish I would have taken before pictures of. I guess I didn't because I never thought we could salvage this old girl. She was in bad, bad shape. My husband wanted to die when I brought her home. But once again, I think he enjoyed the challenge of trying to help me make her shine again. I do love working with my hubby on furniture, we argue about what to do or not do and then we laugh about how crazy I truly must be. She turned out gorgeous if I must say. Distressing and glazing her melted my heart!

I hung this old piece of tin on her side. Again I wish I could remember where this piece of tin came from??? I have been hording it, I love it. I had to add an "N" to it, I have them all over my house.

There she is in her glory, standing tall and proud. She provides tons of storage, I love that about her. However, knowing me, she will live here for awhile and then I will find another needy soul and fix her up and swap them out. I think I have a problem, but at least I can admit it!
Have a great Sunday fellow bloggers-
Krista

Ahhhh, so simple and calming.

This makes me go..ahhhhhhh. I am getting my house ready for the holidays (yes, I know Christmas is 50 days away) and I have a few spots in my house that are completely blank and bare right now. I like to think of them as a blank canvas. I struggle with, do I add more or keep it simple this year. Less is more, I truly believe that. The holidays this year will be hectic at our house, we are hosting both family Christmases, which I LOVE to do!!! So, maybe I should keep it a little simple this year. Hmmmm.... something to ponder as I fill up the blankness around my house. Stay tuned for pictures!

My favorite time of the year!

This picture is sooo darn cute! Courtesy of Country Living. Who wouldn't smile when they come home to this? It is now my favorite time of the year!!! I have already put away all the pumpkins and gourds and pulled out the greens, berries, tin, trees, pillars, etc. My husband walked in the door yesterday and couldn't see the floor at all. I think he secretly likes the changes just as much as I do. My kids can't wait to see what I pull out of the magic closet next. I have not put up any Christmas and won't until after Thanksgiving, but I am loving the drastic changes I am making. I'll share some pictures this week. Happy change of seasons everyone!
Tell me, do you leave your pumpkins up until Thanksgiving or are you as impatient as I am?
